A Lil' About Spore Productions - The Philosophy of Fun
Company
Background of SPORE Productions
TORONTO,
CANADA. - May 11, 2000 - One year ago, SPORE Productions set up shop
in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with a simple but challenging goal: "To
Create Fun". Founded by René Boutin, a game development veteran of the
8-bit and 16bit game console era, Spore has offered game development
and graphics services to a variety of clients. Now this year's E3 show
marks Spore's entry into publishing with their "Lil'Games" line of budget
software. Spore's goal is to make Lil'Games a household brand name,
recognized and enjoyed by kids and adults of all ages. A concept that's
sure to spawn imitators, Lil'Games will be the original collectible
PC game series.
The
games may be "lil", but Spore's future looks big. When asked about Spore's
future expansion in the games market, René said "I've been quite disenchanted
with the lack of design innovation with most games of the last few years.
Spore's focus evidently is on producing games at what I call 'sub-budget'
prices, but the future will see us developing higher budget games focused
on new themes, and innovative gameplay techniques rather than hackneyed
'me too' concepts. I truly believe there is room for fresh ideas, provided
they are developed with care, attention to detail, and most importantly,
are truly fun."
In the 90's René worked on graphics in the development department of
Virgin Interactive Entertainment, (MC Kids, Cool Spot
and Robocop VS Terminator), and then produced high profile licensed
games for Sunsoft of America (Looney Tunes B-Ball, Disney's
Beauty and the Beast, Speedy Gonzales Los Gatos Bandidos).
